Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Horizon Care Supported Living confirms our commitment to emissions reduction at the highest level and to achieving Net Zero by 2050.

The Carbon Reduction Plan will be updated regularly (at least annually) and approved by a director.

Baseline emissions footprint

We are assessing our organisational carbon footprint and baseline emissions. We will report annually on our current emissions to assess our progress of projected carbon emissions against actual carbon emissions.

Baseline year: 2023. This is our first report of emissions.

Emissions reduction targets

To continue our progress towards Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction target: we project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 5.75 tCO2e by 2030. This is a reduction of 50%.

Carbon reduction projects

Some of the carbon reduction initiatives we have implemented to date include:

• Investing in energy-efficient lighting, including LED lighting and PIR lighting controls
• Investing in energy-efficient appliances, such as fridges and freezers
• Policy changes that reduce company travel, including virtual meetings and a car-sharing policy
• Increasing our use of local suppliers and contractors
• Digital systems for care planning, rotas and personnel
• Climate Change Champions: “The Green Team”, championing green habits such as switching off and unplugging
• Volunteering for clean-ups in our local community
• Fuel cards
• Reducing our use of single-use plastic
• Recycling schemes, including IT equipment and phone recycling

In the future we hope to implement further measures, such as:

• Electrification of the company fleet
• Certification schemes such as ISO 14001 or PAS 2060
• Signing up to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
• Carbon offsetting schemes at our premises, including composting, rainwater collection, bird boxes and bug gardens, and planting hedgerows to increase biodiversity and habitats
• Solar technology at our premises
• Tree planting through Carbon Neutral Britain or other sustainable tree-planting projects
• Paying for carbon offsetting

Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, and use the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the Board of Directors, 2 October 2023.
